God and Greybeards

This must be “Pick On an Old Man Week.” I was playing “Draw Something” with a randomly-chosen player, and he obviously saw my profile pic because he sent me this message: “You’re too old to play this game.” A few days later, I ran into a retired colleague and said, “You look great!” She replied (rather too quickly), “You do, too — but you do have that grey, old-man beard thing going.”

Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t judge our worth by age, background or physical appearance? He loves us the way we are and His love can take us to places we never dreamed of going. Moses was 80 years old when the Lord called him from the burning bush, and Josiah the king earnestly began seeking God at age 16. Anna was an aged woman, Peter was hard-headed, Paul had a thorn in his flesh — and God used them all, because they were ultimately willing.

God’s not through with me yet, even though some apparently think I’m as old as Methuselah. And he’s not through with you, either.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to trim my grey beard and finish a drawing.

I always know that I would grow old. The surprise was that it happened so soon.
